Report Highlights
The energy conservation and environmental protection industry has seen rapid development in recent years. In some countries and regions it is taken as a pillar industry, receiving wide attention. It will achieve rapid development over the next five years. While energy constraint looms large, China's energy utilization efficiency still lags considerably behind the world advanced level. The Medium and Long-Term Plan on Energy Conservation puts forward China's energy conservation target for the 11th Five-Year Plan period and some time to come: By 2010, the energy consumption of per 10,000 yuan of GDP fell 18% from 2003, the unit energy consumption of main products reaches or approaches the international advanced level in early 1990s. Under the overall requirements on sustainable development, by 2010 the total output value of China's environmental protection industry will come to 880 billion yuan, taking up about 3.4% of the GDP of the same period. The year 2007 will also see foreign energy conservation and environmental protection enterprises scramble for the China market. Chinese energy conservation and environmental protection enterprises face opportunities and challenges.
